You could decorate the outside, line the inside with velvet, place a mirror on the inside of the lid, and make it into a jewelry box. Or add a strap and a clasp and use it as a purse.

I made a clock out of an ancient Punch Cigars box I had.

I went to Leisure activity Lobby and bought one of the preconstructed clock mini-quartz movements (1/4 or 1/3 inch I reckon), new hands, and a set of face numbers. Bored out a hole in the middle of the top, pushed the movement through and, voila, a clock.

The movement came with a hanging cut, so I just attached that to the back of the box.

The motor fit in just right, and the boxes are meant to keep clogged so it won’t need to be glued; making it simpler open and change the battery if needed.

You could make a pop-up scene. I reckon it would be fun to do a disney movie, or a scene from a book.
